2K Recruits Apex Legends Lead to Rescue Troubled Hero Shooter Project Ethos

The renowned publisher has welcomed a seasoned producer from the creators of Apex Legends to oversee the studio crew at their internal studio, which is currently developing the forthcoming over-the-shoulder action-packed title known as Project Ethos.

Leadership Shift Follows Mixed Feedback

The new appointee assumes the role of studio head at the development studio following the exit of former leader Michael Condrey, who was reportedly let go due to Project Ethos' lackluster unveiling last fall.

Recently, 2K president David Ismailer notified staff about this organizational change through an official communication, which emphasized that playtesting had shown the need for a more defined vision.

Ismailer stated that the developers is now refining Project Ethos with a renewed focus, aiming to satisfy player expectations.

Trend of Strategic Recruitment

The news follows a similar action taken by 2K Games in the summer, when they hired an industry veteran from the Diablo team to assist with the beloved franchise development group.

Here is the complete text from the president's announcement:

Dear Team—

I understand you all just finished your meeting - I trust you’re as enthusiastic as I am with the good news. Previously I shared you all a update, I mentioned the following: “I believe in this team. You all are some of the most driven and innovative creators we have had the pleasure to partner with - and we’re eager for that collaboration to continue.”

Given your hard work and versatility, particularly over the past twelve months, you repeatedly show that.

The player input from last fall’s the game testing phase was enlightening. It validated the appeal of a roguelike shooter but told us we still had refinements needed. It revealed the requirement for a more distinct identity.

It has been motivating to see how far you’ve advanced. You accepted the criticism to consideration and reimagined Project ETHOS with a revitalized direction - one that’s poised to fulfill its potential to our audience.

The belief in Project ETHOS grows every day. To boost the remarkable development you’ve made, I am thrilled to welcome the new hire as the incoming Director of 31st Union. After several months of discussions, Ben officially joins us on the specified date.

His guidance and background in the PVP shooter genre is vast, having devoted the last 15 years producing and managing some of the most well-known titles in gaming, such as Call of Duty: Black Ops, and lately, Apex Legends.

Please join me in greeting Ben in the coming days. We are all excited to keep witnessing the development of Project ETHOS in the weeks to follow.

David

Title Details and Vision

The upcoming game was announced in last year alongside a public demo. At the time, 31st Union described the game as a "no-cost, third-person perspective action-packed experience and an thrilling step forward on the style."

"Create your ideal gameplay session—or face defeat—in this engaging over-the-shoulder adventure! Build your hero in live gameplay to fit your unique tactics," the description reads. "Take on the rivals with unique powers, stakes, and challenges that shift every match. Will you safely extract with your hard-earned loot? Or aim high, risk it all, and hope your squad can secure victory? The decision is in your hands."

The game lacks an official launch window or supported systems, but fans can anticipate further news as development progresses.
